Expert and independent governance dedicated to the quality of standards

The Biodiversity Standards Council (BSC) is an independent scientific review body.

It intervenes only in the critical examination of methodological frameworks, without participation in the design, guidance or evaluation of projects.

It does not replace either the operational actors or the evaluation or certification procedures implemented by IRICE.

A pluralistic and expert composition

The BSC brings together representatives from several professional colleges:

  • Ecologists and naturalists,
  • Urban planners and architects,
  • Public actors and local authorities,
  • experts , sustainable finance and extra-financial reporting ,
  • Researchers and members of scientific organizations.
This diversity aims to ensure that the reference frameworks:

  • They reflect the reality of current practices
  • They are based on objective and balanced criteria,
  • They are intelligible, applicable and audited in a consistent manner.

A methodological review role for IRICE reference frameworks

THE BSC participates in the validation of modifications, additions or deletions of indicators in:
  • The Effinature (certification),
  • The BPS (assessment) framework.
Each update to the repositories is subject to:
  • From a technical instruction ,
  • From a committee vote ,
  • From an official publication with public documentation .
This process contributes to the stability, transparency and methodological consistency of IRICE standards.

An essential mission in support of research

The BSC:

  • It follows the evolution of professional practices and standards,
  • It incorporates the results of R&D projects carried out by IRICE or its partners,
  • Participates in the emergence of new indicators or thematic modules (health, resilience, ...).
He thus plays a role in scientific monitoring and methodological regulation within IRICE.

These contributions aim to ensure that changes in indicators are based on documented, reproducible elements that are consistent with the methodological frameworks of the reference frameworks.

Principles of independence and credibility

The BSC operates according to:

  • Clear internal regulations ,
  • Principles of neutrality and transparency ,
  • The absence of remuneration for opinions rendered (except for specifically funded research).
These rules aim to prevent conflicts of interest and to enhance the readability and credibility of the standards used in IRICE certification processes.
